Theleapfrog Top Teaching Hospital 2017West Orange, NJ, December 7, 2017 – Jersey City Medical Center, Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center, three RWJBarnabas Health facilities, were recognized as Top Teaching Hospitals in 2017 by The Leapfrog Group. Widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors an American hospital can receive, the recognition underscores all three facilities’ commitment to patient safety and quality.

“The Top Hospital recognition is a testament to the tremendous team efforts of our entire staff, who work together to deliver our patients premier care,” said Joseph Scott, FACHE, Executive Vice President for RWJBarnabas Health and President and CEO for Jersey City Medical Center. “We are committed to achieving the highest levels of quality in both care and education at Jersey City Medical Center.”

Among thousands of hospitals in the country, Jersey City Medical Center, Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center are three of 36 Top Teaching Hospitals recognized nationally and of only nine hospitals recognized in New Jersey.

“We are pleased to be honored with the distinction of Top Hospital for the fourth consecutive year here at Saint Barnabas Medical Center,” said Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, President and CEO of Saint Barnabas Medical Center. “By achieving Top Hospital status, Saint Barnabas Medical Center has proven yet again that it prioritizes the safety of its patients and their families and is committed to delivering exemplary care.”

Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

“This tremendous achievement is a testament to the dedication of our highly skilled physicians, nurses and care teams and their commitment to providing the highest quality patient-centered care in the safest environment,” said Bill Arnold, President and CEO of Monmouth Medical Center. “Monmouth Medical Center’s reputation as a university-level medical center attracts the best physicians to our Medical staff. And our resident physicians and medical students are an integral part of this collaborative approach to safety and quality.”

“We are proud to recognize three RWJBarnabas Health facilities – Jersey City Medical Center, Saint Barnabas Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center as a 2017 Leapfrog Top Hospital. This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and the local community. The entire staff and board deserve praise for putting quality first and achieving results,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The selection of Top Hospitals 2017 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2017 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
