    A Clinical Instructor of Neurosurgery at Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons, Dr. Lustgarten founded and directs the Central New Jersey division of Neurosurgical Associates of New Jersey, a practice affiliated with Columbia University's world-reknowned Department of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Lustgarten’s experience is extensive, specializing in advanced microsurgical treatment of brain tumors, pituitary gland, spine and trigeminal neuralgia.

    His surgical accomplishments include the introduction of frame-based and frameless navigational techniques to this region of New Jersey, which greatly increase the accuracy and safety of brain and spinal surgery. He helped establish the David Zocchi Brain Tumor Center at Monmouth Medical Center, a leading program in New Jersey for advanced comprehensive multispecialty care of brain tumor patients.

    Additionally he has been an innovator and leader in the treatment of spinal disorders, including the use of microsurgical techniques and minimally invasive approaches in the treatment of herniated discs and other spinal disorders. He helped establish the first Stereotactic Radiosurgery program in the Monmouth/Ocean County region, and is experienced in the use of Gamma Knife, Cyberknife, and Tomotherapy for the treatment of tumors, trigeminal neuralgia and other conditions affecting the nervous system.

    Dr. Lustgarten graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and obtained his medical degree at Columbia University's College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed a general surgery internship, neurosurgical residency and chief residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

    Dr. Lustgarten has published and presented work on spinal tumors, regeneration, and use of image guidance for brain tumor surgery. He is a member of numerous national neurosurgical organizations, and is currently president of the New Jersey Neurosurgical Society.
