Services Provided at the Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy provides medication therapy patient care services for patients of all ages and levels of acuity within Clara Maass Medical Center. All services are conducted in accordance with accepted ethical and professional standards of practice and meet all legal requirements.

Clara Maass Medical Center pharmacy provides 24 hour pharmacy services. Our pharmacists work directly on the nursing units allowing us to be a direct resource for our nurses, doctors, other health-care professionals and patients. Pharmacists provide services including anticoagulation monitoring, renal dosing, antimicrobial stewardship, patient counseling, and emergency response. The pharmacy department monitors and highlights the activities of our pharmacy staff to make sure they are recognized for their role and impact on patient care both in our facility and throughout the system.

Patient Care

The provision of high quality comprehensive patient care is the basis of the Department mission.

To achieve this purpose the department will, in cooperation with other health care professionals, develop standards of practice and establish policies and procedures designed to:

  • Acquire and maintain highly qualified, conscientious professional staff and supportive personnel that will assist in the provision of competent and rational patient care.
  • Assure the proper administration of medications to patients.
  • Utilize a system of patient monitoring which continuously evaluates the appropriateness of the patient’s drug therapy.
  • Educate and inform the patient regarding drug therapy.

Clinical Services

Clinical services allow Clara Maass Medical Center to offer specialized services for different hospital populations. These services include emergency medicine, psychiatry, critical care, infectious disease, and internal medicine.

Pharmacy has a strong presence in many committees hospital-wide and throughout the hospital system, which include, but are not limited to, Infection Control, Antibiotic Stewardship, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Quality and Safety Council, and Critical Care.

Research

Research is on the forefront of the Department’s goals for innovation and leadership.

The Department encourages the initiation and development of meaningful research in areas such as clinical therapeutics, drug delivery systems, administrative sciences and the development of new roles in Pharmacy.

The Department encourages both individual research efforts and participation in collaborative research projects with other health professionals at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers University College of Pharmacy.
